Capacity building
The Thames Valley Applied Research Collaboration is part of the NIHR Infrastructure.
Capacity building within the NIHR infrastructure is about creating the people, skills, opportunities and the research environment needed to support and develop high-quality health and care research. We aim to create the conditions in which researchers and health and care professionals can develop their careers and skills and collaborate meaningfully.
Our approach to capacity building will focus on creating a supportive, inclusive and equitable research environment that recognises and values the diverse contributions people make to research. We will support researchers and health and care professionals from a wide range of disciplines, professions, backgrounds and career stages to develop their skills, realise their potential and achieve their career goals. This includes providing mentorship, training, protected research time, leadership development, networking and opportunities for interdisciplinary and cross-professional collaboration. We particularly aim to support groups and professions that have historically had fewer opportunities to engage in research.
We hope to strengthen the collective regional and national capability and diversity of the health and care research workforce and build a sustainable pipeline of future research leaders.
